About the speaker

George Bisharat is Professor of Law at the Hastings College of the Law, San Francisco, USA.

He was a trial lawyer for the Office of the Public Defender in San Francisco before joining the Hastings faculty in 1991, having studied law, anthropology and Middle East Studies at Harvard.

He writes frequently on law and politics in the Middle East, both for academic audiences and for major media sources in the US and abroad and his book, Palestinian Lawyers and Israeli Rule: Law and Disorder in the West Bank, is a classic exegesis of the situation of Palestinian lawyers working under Israeli military occupation in the West Bank.
